Artist Statement – Lisa Milnes-Thurling Based in the coastal village of Telegraph Point, New South Wales, I am a self-taught artist whose practice is inspired by the raw beauty of the ocean and the rugged landscapes of Australia’s eastern coastline. My journey into art began as a form of therapy, a way to find stillness and healing.
Over time, it has grown into a dedicated practice that continues to be both restorative and expressive.
Art remains central to my wellbeing, offering a space where creativity and mindfulness intersect.
Working primarily in mixed media, I employ textured gels, pastes, and paints to create tactile and atmospheric works.
My process is highly intuitive and physical — pouring, wiping, and layering pigments directly by hand to evoke the energy and movement of land and sea.
Each piece is shaped as much by touch and rhythm as by vision, often guided by calming music that anchors the act of making.
Through my work, I aim to capture the essence of natural environments that are both grounding and transformative. Painting, for me, is an act of healing and connection — a way of honouring the landscapes that inspire me while sharing a sense of calm and renewal with others.Thank you for visiting my page.
